Which integrations should an accounting practice set up first? A practical order

Portal 360 team · 17 October 2026 · 5 min read

Connecting everything at once is how integrations go wrong. A better approach is to connect in the order that gives your team the biggest daily benefit, and to check each one before you move on. Here is a practical order for an Australian accounting or bookkeeping practice.

1. Accounting software

This is where the most duplicate data entry happens, so it pays back first.

2. Email and calendar

Linking email gives you a complete communication history for every client without manual filing.

3. Files and documents

Connect the cloud storage your team already uses so client documents are findable from the client record.

4. Compliance and identity tools

Add compliance connections once the core workflow is running. Read the ATO Client Communication guide and the Verifi-Me guide.

A simple rollout routine

  1. Pick one integration and one pilot client.
  2. Connect it from Marketplace and wait for the first sync.
  3. Check a few records against the source system.
  4. Tell the team what is now automatic and where the source of truth sits.
  5. Move to the next integration.

Where to look

Browse every integration on the integrations page. If you are still choosing a plan, find your plan or start a free trial and connect your first integration the same day.
